Champa and Champi was the official mascots of 2009 SEA Games in Vientiane, Laos. They are two white elephants dressed in traditional Lao attire. The male elephant is named Champa and the female elephant is named Champi. The two white elephants symbolize Laos as it was known as the kingdom of Lan Xang in ancient times, which literally means "the kingdom of a million elephants" (in English). The mascots are depicted as being cheerful, which is an important part in making sports competitions joyful and lively. (source: link)
