Sebastian is the official mascot for the University of Miami. He is an anthropomorphized American White Ibis. He is use a Miami Hurricanes football jersey, number 0. Sebastian was created in August, 1957.
He was named after former University of Miami residential college, San Sebastian Hall (Sebastian building) which became a University dormitory in 1939. It's now an apartment building stands at the intersection of LeJeune Road and University Drive in Coral Gables. Through the years, the Sebastian the Ibis has become one of the most well known college mascots in the United States.
